WESLACO — City commissioners this week hired a new finance director after the position had remained vacant for nearly seven months.
The City of Weslaco had been without a permanent finance director since November 2014, when Bret Mann retired after serving intermittently for approximately four years.
Replacing Mann will be Maria Barrera, former finance director for the City of Hidalgo and the City of Rio Grande City. Commissioners at Tuesday’s meeting approved Barrera on the recommendation of an interview committee comprised of City Manager Mike Perez, City Secretary Elizabeth Walker, Mayor Pro-Tem Olga Noriega and Commissioner David Fox.
